Health Focus

Hey everyone – I just wanted to tell you about a new activity I’ll be doing this April. The Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge hosted by WEGO Health. I will be writing a post a day for the rest of April. I hope you’ll join me in writing every day about health. It’s going to be a lot of fun and I’d love to see what you have to say about each of the topics, too. All you have to do to join is sign up here: http://info.wegohealth.com/HAWMC2012 and you’ll be able to start posting. Looking forward to writing with you!

The above is from Wego Health.  I like this challenge.  I am not at all sure, I can keep up with this responsibility, but I plan to make every effort to do so.  Each day, there is a new topic to write on and I find them to be stimulating with potential.  For example today’s assignment is to—– “Create a pinterest board for your health focus. What did you pin?  Share the images  in a post and explain why you chose them.  ”

Strange as it may seem, I went for a check-up, this morning and the doctor advised me that my blood pressure is on its way up (aw no,  it is higher than it used to be – it is already too high).  I want to prove to myself, I can work on controlling my health.  I have fallen away from my exercise routine and although, I am eating lots more vegetables and fruits, I use salt and eat too much cheese.

There was a time, in my life, that I was on top of the food I ate and the exercise, I did.  I felt good about my mastery of something important and I loved the exercise and tolerated food changes.  The food should be easier this time since we eat relatively healthy food.  I have to limit my cheese intake and my chocolate (sob sob).  Vegetables, I certainly get enough of but fruits are still lacking.  More fruits should be fun.

The first and most positive change, I am making, is the exercise.  The weather is beautiful and I certainly want to get outside more so I am picking up my walking schedule.  I also indulged and bought three exercise videos which I want to include in my daily schedule, at least four times a week.  Strength training used to be a favorite and that should be relatively easy to incorporate into en exercise plan.

I went through a wonderful time with videos, about ten years ago and was pleased that I was in better shape than when I got married.  I had my favorites then and some of them are still making videos.  This is particularly exciting because I find, I can really see improvement as I repeat the exercises.  I look forward to adding this to my daily routine.

Exercise, food and limiting salt are my three areas of concern and two of the three should not be too difficult because I am motivated.  Limiting my salt intake even more is not a happy thought but I am determined.  I will let you know how I do.

I hope you will stick with me and encourage me through this writing exercise and actual healthy life plan.
